I found an 88 250R for a decent price. Frame looks good, but it has a pipe, muffler, nerfbars, non-stock plastic/grab bars, etc.

I'd like to put all oem Honda pieces back on the quad if I can. Can I still get oem plastic and decals for it, and does Honda still make the front/rear bars, footpegs, etc? Or, do I need to scavenge ebay and such?

I don't mind paying for new oem stuff. At the price I might be getting the bike for it's totally worth it.

I loooked at the partsfishe, but that doesn't always mean the parts are still available. I've ran across several things on my old ATC that say they are, but once the inquiry is submitted it is not.

Figured this is a popular bike and folks might know off the top of their heads.

 

Look at my pictures... Factory 88 plastic makes the BEST looking R as far as I am concerned! They still sell it. If you end up not getting it let me know about it. I could use another good rider bike and i am going to Ohio next week...

 

I think I have a stock pipe and muffler. If your interested, I'll look for it. I also agree, the '88 is the best looking of the R's.

 

There are quite a few things that Honda no longer makes. I wish I could be more specific, but I tried ordering a lot of things for my R that are no longer in production. I know for a fact that you can't buy the foot pegs any more as I tried. I also heard that you can't get the stock graphics any more. Servicehonda.com will be your best source. Make sure that you know the items you order are still in production.....I ordered a few items from a local Honda dealer that I waited weeks for, then when I finally went to the Honda shop after they still hadn't come in and asked why it was taking so long, they realized that the clerk didn't notice the parts were no longer available. Your best bet is Ebay!

 

All the plastic and graphics on mine are new. I doubt he needs many "hard" parts. Everything else can be found through honda or aftermarket. Ebay is your best friend when looking for items such as stock bumpers and grab bars as well as other hard to find items.

 

Just my opinion, but I don't really see the purpose in restoring a quad. Im not trying to sway what you want to do, but the 250R becomes a remartkable machine with mods. I think you should really consider the aftermarket for parts. It will only make your bike better. But no matter what you choose, whether you go fully modded or fully restored, you'll enjoy your R. I'm not looking for a 100% resto. Just certain non-stock items really bug me. I'll buy as many stock pieces that I can find, but I'm not going to spend 3 years looking for a certain 10mm NOS bolt.

I probably will end up with a non-stock pipe and such, but I definitely would want a oem pipe, just in case.

 

Hi all...new to this forum! In fact this is my first post. What a great place!

Hubby finally started on the rebuild of his R. Since the process just started, I'm finding all the places needed to order parts, ask questions, etc...just in case he needs help (I have all the faith in the world in him) [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]

So, I'm with you tkm...let's hope any of the OEM parts or even the aftermarket ones will be easily available. His biggest project is the frame. The cracks are bad and almost all the way through in some areas and the swing arm was just about cracked all the way through too. At least the one you are looking at doesn't look like his!
