DID chain

sup. I have a 2001 400ex. My stock chain broke and i got a DID chain. Im having alittle problem putting it on. When you connect the 2 ends together, you put in the master link. When you put the other side on the link, do you put the other side piece on or do u just put the clip on to hold it together. I cant fit the side piece on it just wont like snap in place. Should i just use the clip or use that piece also?

i bought a chain form famn N fleet or whatever it is called. no sence in payin 70 bucks when i can get the same thing with a different name for $15. tho i had the same problem getting mine on. i used a pair of channellocks and a gentle touch. dont bend anything or it will break again in no time flat.

yeah you need to use all the pieces, man. did u try using a pliers to squeeze them together? Maybe there is a burr or something on one of the pieces. The clip holds the outer plate piece on. It doesnt really snap in place either for this reason, the plate just slides onto the pegs far enough for the grooves to come through, then the clip slides into those grooves and holds everything together.
Oh yeah, the open end of the clip should face the opposite direction of chain travel too.

I am assuming this is a non-O-ring chain. If it is an O-ring Chain you also need to include the O-rings on both sides.
I usually use a small c-clamp to gently squeeze the master link together.
Be careful with the clip. If you stretch it too wide it may not stay on securely.

First, make very sure you need to take one out. You actually take two out at a time (one outer, one inner)... that is a lot of slack.
The best way to remove a link is to use a chain breaker tool.
I don't have one, so I usually use my Dremel tool to grind the end of the pins off. Then tap with a screw driver and it falls apart.
