first, it's better to try shifting with the machine actually moving.
second, make sure your clutch is adjusted properly. The ES system has a hard time shifting if the clutch isnt disengaging properly.
also, check the battery. have it load tested, and replace if necessary. the motor needs a lot of amperage to work with full power.
also check around the motor and the ANGLE sensor which is down by the motor, for loose or corroded connections. clean and put dielectric grease on the connectors.
