Default trx450 Help

Hi. I want to buy a 2005 trx450, but people tell me you have to do alot of maintence on it. like Change spark plug every time you ride, change oil every time you ride it, and that you cant keep a 450 stock, you have to put mods on it. they also tell me since im not going to be racing to just get a trx400. i do, do alot of mx but i dont race. also since im getting a 2005 its better to get a 400 cuz it has reverse.

What do you guys think?
Is it True what they tell about the 450?

Default trx450 Help

I have never changed my spark plug, in the 450. I think my 400ex needs oil changes, more than the 450. Does the 450 need maintance? Yes. Does a lawnmower? Yes.

If you are just riding and play racing, I would say get a 400, but if you want to be faster then the 400, get 450.

So your saying that you dont have to change the oil or spark plug every timer you ride it.

How frequently do you usually change it?

how long are the spark plug and oil changes on a 400?

would the 450 last me along time, cuz i need it for ten or more years.

I change my oil about every 2 or 3 times I ride it. I'm talking about a good ride, like 3 to 6 hour rides. I also look at the color and condition of the oil and may change it sooner or later. Changing the oil is cheaper than motor work. I will change my spark plug once a year or if I flood the engine .

the 450r doesnt NEED anything, its what you want. i have changed my crankcase oil like 5 times in the past year, and the tranny like 2. nothing special as far as maintenence. i have changed my spark plug once, and it didnt even need it.

Default trx450 Help

Whats up man, i had a 400ex and now have 05 450r and no regrets what so ever about getting it, as far as maintnance like people said above all motors need some type of maintnance some just a little more than others, for my engine and gear oil i will change it after a hard weekend of riding, but then if i'm just out there poking around the woods or something i'll let it go a little longer, i use GN4 10w40 in both sides, some people like to use a synthetic gear oil but the manufacture recommends the 10w40 so its good for me, and when you do change them its a piece of cake and very little time to do so, i got a pack of 20 filters off Ebay for like 30 bucks or something close to that, and for my modification, i got zip, none, nada. The only upgrade i got is a grab bar that i got for free. I dont know if this is a good thing but i never changed my plug yet or cleaned it since i had it, and its been a year, problem free and never had a problem starting (knock on wood).I also dont really care about reverse, yeah its convenient but i rarley ever need reverse. If reverse is a must for you, go with the 400 then, but the performance between the 2 isnt comparable in my book, also dont forget about the kick start over the electric off the 400ex, i would think that would be a bigger dilemma for you then the reverse, Good luck

Today someone asked me to trade a 2001 Raptor 660 for my quad plus some money. I dont know whether the deal is good or not cuz i want a new quad not one that has been used. also its not the quad i was looking for. the raptor has some performance parts, a bore kit that makes it a 689cc and a couple of other stuff. do you guys think thats a god deal?

Im sellining my quad for like 2,600 and he is selling his for 3,300 so he going to want like 800 dollars, plus my quad for his.
