Just bought this thing and am working on making it rideable, the engine seems to be strong and it fires up and runs without to much trouble. My question concers the clutch / shifting on this thing, does this model have an automatic clutch, and how does that work, I also noticed that the pedal brake goes back to an arm on the rear end, as well as the pull lever on the handle bar going to this arm.. What is this?

 

yep, it's an auto clutch. The hand brake is there so if you feel like using it you can instead of the foot brake.

So how does that work will it idle in higher gears at low rpm? I think mine might be messed up.

 

It should idle in any gear. If it doesn't and your clutch seems to be working fine then it may just be a carb adjustment. I've got an 86 that I bought last weekend as a project. It's almost done. I'm just fixing the last idiots screw ups. I think I'll end up with a quad for about $325 when I'm all done.
