Default over rev box??

Here are my beliefs. I have a 300ex, which is almost the exact same quad as yours. That three horsepower (as you probably know) comes from two things. In a properly engineered "rev box", there is a more efficient (stronger) spark generated. Second, it can crank out more pulses per second, effectively allowing your engine to rev higher. More horsepower results from this extra engine momentum alone. Personally I would not install one. An extra grand on the top of your current redline will obviously increase engine wear. It doesnt take a nerd to figure that out. This is precisely why I dont install one, because I'm not man enough to sacrifice a few engine hours. Its not like your engine will detonate, however. It takes alot more than 1000 above rev to break stuff immediately. Ive seen things done to your engine that would make most grown men cry, like running a full aftermarket exhaust with a K&N and STOCK JETTING. Granted, I can eat him in a drag with my stocker, but thats not my point. My point is that many people will dis rev boxes, under the pretense that they do immediate engine damage. They (in most cases) do not. They just put an extra strain on my mill that for my style is unnesecary. I like it to hit hard at the low end for wheelies and drag lead-offs. (do keep in mind that most of that 3hp will be on the very top) Take from this what you will.
