Busted '06 450R

We'll ive had my 450R for about 3-4months now and did all of the proper break in techniques (waiting 10 hours to go full trhottle) and did my first oil change at 12 hours. I changed the oil filter and changed the oil (obviously) and thats when the problem started. I had a buddy help install the oil filter while I was working on my car at the same time and he finished pretty quick. As soon as I started it and revved it up (after I let it warm up) oil started to spew from the top pf the head; and I had NO idea what was wrong so I assumed it was a the overflow.
I went riding the next weekend to the dunes and it was all fine untill the end of the day when it started to spit oil again from the TOP of the head; being pissed off I simply loaded my bike and called it a day. I checked the oil before leaving home and the guage read empty; not even low.
I haven't got it checked out by a mechanic yet but I added more oil just to see if the problem continued (I didint ride for about a month after the incident at the dunes) and surely enough the oil started to come out about 15 minutes after warm up.
Anyone have any ideas? Gasket blown or something else?

yep, my first thought, oil filter in backwards. No oil circulation and too much pressure. Check it out. Why did you ride it again when it shot oil out? You should have checked it thoroughly before even starting it again.

My friend is rather experienced so I trusted him while I made oil change on my car as well.
Thats what I told him at first...."dude, you sure you put the oil filter on the right way?", he seemed to be pretty damn confident about that not being the problem.
I'll give it another tune up and do it myself this time to make sure it doesn't happen again. I'll keep you guys posted.
Thanks for the replies.

How can you stand the suspense???
It will take you like 3 minutes to find out. Just slip the cover off a little way, and if it is in right you should see the black gasget on the oil filter fitting over the nipple on the inside of the cover. Put a rag under it, because you will lose a little oil, but shouldn't be that much.

This same thing happened to the guy that bought my 250x from me.......He did his first oil change and put the filter in backwards.........He said shortly after it just quit running..........Seized motor! Some people are mechanics, and some should pay one.
