You could more likely run into issues like blown head gaskets. Also, you will have to probably do the topend piston and rings more often. It was well worth it for me at the time. That was before the 450's came out.

On my old 400ex I had a big bore kit with some goodies. To be honest, I wouldn't do it again. If you are a trail rider anyways. It was still pretty reliable, but it was more finicky about the weather and jetting. The power gains were descent, but nothing to impressive. IMO I would just save up for a more modern quad if you need to be faster, unless Im building a race quad, pipe and filter is almost all I will do from now when it comes to engine performance. Maybe cams to.

If you didn't have to pay to have it installed I would do it. Just make sure you valves are adjusted accordingly. Web Cams are good to.

look into a smaller bore like a 416 or 426. They seem to run way better and still keep the stock reliability characteristics. I would recommend a 86 or 87mm 11:1 piston, hotcams stg 2 or something close, k&n and if at all possible a mild port job on the intake along with a decent full exhaust system. I've had a 440 before and it doesn't run even close to as good as the new 426 rebuild. I was also able to port the intake myself which noticeable helped midrange.
