Loose wheel on 400ex
#1
I just noticed the left rear wheel on my 400ex is a little loose. I noticed this when I was sliding it around taking it out of the garage. I thought the lug nuts were loose, but they are tight. It's like the hub is slightly loose. There is just a little play, not much. I notice there is no play on the right side. The cotter pin is still in the large nut that secures the hub to the axle. Is the problem as simple as this nut was not tightened enough? How many ft/lbs of torque should be on this nut? Sorry for the dumb question.

This will happen occasionally. I have to tighten mine about once a year. You will have to remove the cotter pin, tighten the nut, and replace the pin preferably with a new one.

get a torque wrench and torque it to 100ft pds.. I can't get to my manual right now but I think the specs call for 101ft pds..
EDIT I looked it up and it is 101ft pds. and it also says to apply grease to all of the parts.. inside the hub, on the splines, in the nut and where the hub buts up to the axle....

101 ft/lbs and tighten slightly more if needed to get the cotter pin back in. Note there are two slots and they are not the same so one will always be closer to lining up for the cotter pin than the other.
