My poor 400!
#1
Since it was a nice sunday afternoon, my bro and I decided to take a trip to the dunes before the snow hit. We had just met up with some friends and stopped to chat. We later took off and enjoyed some newly blown over dunes looking for jumps and such. I was riding my new 450 and my bro on my 400ex. Well ten minutes into the ride we all kinda split out but I followed my bro. Next thing I see was him fly off a sharp dune. I knew he had jumped a ways but I didn't know how he knew what the landing was like. As I crested, there he stopped on the flat sandstone shelf on the other side. He stepped off and immediately hit the ground. I knew he was in pain. I didn't see any tire marks but there were parts of the bottom skid and pieces of the airbox. The scrap of aluminum and plastic smeared on the sharp sandstone. I jumped off and rush to him. He knew he broke his ankle. I waited for the others to come and helped him to his feet. The ex looked like it was dropped 5 stories and landed flat. The rims bent and one broken, the airbox shattered and the plastic riped from all mounts and cracked. Even worse was the sight of the puddle of oil draining from the case where the plastic skid was torn in half. Come to find he only fractured his left ankle and would be fine. My once perfect 400 which I recieved so many compliments on the day before at the flat drags is now totalled. At least he is fine but like always, it coulda and looked like it was a lot worse! However, I will get it fixed and have it just the way it was before we went for the little sunday putt. I left it at the dunes to get to the hospital but I'll pick it up at my friends place and see what a shame.
Moral: Plan the land before the jump!

well, it's worse than we thought. At this point I don't care about the quad but I'm sure he'll help pay. A friend is dropping it off today so we get to see the damage. If you know anything about the foot bones, it's the worst possible break and fractures you can get! He split both maleolus of the tibia and fibula (the round ankle bones) and broke the talus in half (the bone underneath the other two that articulates to make the joint). If the talus doesn't grow back together, it will upset the blood flow to the rest of the bones and will eventually die, causing extreme arthritic development. He'll be off his feet for at least two months. He is going in today at 1 to have surgery and get some pins. I'm praying for the best! He just better bo good to go by spring break!

Im so sorry to hear about your bro man, but be thankfull that it was much worse. My bro(not by blood) was killed on my old 400ex last august, worst thing I've ever been thru. Check my bio page for a pic of the quad.

Ya, he is way lucky that he didn't break his back and end up in a chair. I could have been a ton worst but we have yet to see what comes of it when he's out of surgery tonight. I'm very sorry to hear about your accidental event to. I know in a way, I'm lucky too.

o yea... one more thing... i just looked at ur profile and noticed the paintball pic. wat kinda gun do u have/ are u on a team? i used to be obsessed with paintballing but havnt gone in like 5 months and im kinda drifting away from it. its a great game but i dont have much time for it anymore and everytime i get free time i go quading so it kinda interferes. i wanna start up again this spring and get a team going with my friend who is sponsored by empire.
