Default $500 too much??

ive got a 2000 foreman 450es that i just purchased, engine smokes , which i knew, so i figured i would modify..... so i thought.

i took it to my local atv shop, they checked it over,
seems the original owner had already had the engine bored and such.
it has 5000 miles on it.

so this is what my atv shop told me, i need to replace the cylinder, piston, all gaskets, spark plug, redo the head, etc. etc. etc., not touching the bottom at all since he said its fine.

$500 for parts & labor and all, is that too much?? im sure its cheaper to do myself, but......... i dont have the time.

Um if they are using new parts than that seems like a good price, but as history shows us if you rebuild a wornout topend you really should rebuild the bottom end to prevent any surprises. JMO.

I agree with freebird on the bottom end. But still, that's not a bad price.

Well if its running and riding OK, then go with what you have. We all would like to throw money at our quads, but if you don't need to then don't. Just keep an eye on it for awhile, ex: check oil level alot to make sure its not burning too much. As long as there are no safety issues with the machine you might be fine. Good Luck and enjoy your new ride.
