I'm fairly new to ATV's so I don't know too much about them, yet. I have an '01 Honda 250ex and it runs fine, however lately I have noticed an engine "ticking". Also, it sounds like the gearing or transmission is clanking around. Anyone have any thoughts or ideas? I checked the oil and it doesn't seem contaminated and is fairly clean. Thanks, if you can help.

 

I also have an 01 and the gears clank around when i start in to high of a gear. If you start in to high of a gear this might be the problem. For the engine ticking i couldn't tell you if it is normal or not without hearing it.

the ticking you are hearing is most likely the cam and valves. it is normal...i wouldnt worry about it. the 250ex is a tank.
