On the website Honda claims the TRX 450 has a new engine w/ more power for 06. I can't find any info explaining this. Can someone let me in on the secret or is it BS? And, if it is true can you guys elaborate on how they made the new found power and, how much more there is?

 

I know they upped the compression on the 06.

 

ok. take a look at the engine specs first from both 05/06 years and compare them to the crf.
this will help point you in the right direction.

they changed the stroke and stuff, raised compression, rev limiter, different cam, carb, etc.

in a nutshell, they put the engine from the CRF450X dirtbike in it (slightly altered) this year.
Stock, it will blow away an 04/05R with or with their HRC kits...the 04/05 were no slouches either. they're pretty fast machines.

and if you really want to see more power, the new HRC kit for the 2006 450R wil get you even more power, like a 30% increase over stock and close to or slightly above 50hp (pretty sure thats at crank).

i have the 06 and it is much faster than the 04-05 my friend has. mine stock was quiker than his with the hrc. but he had just a little more top end because they geared the 06 down. so i got the new hrc kit and put the 14tooth sproket on the front and now we race and its a joke. this thing is awsome it fast than yfzs too. i think it would of given my 05yfz a hella a run. acually i know this 06 was fast because my freinds yfz was almost as fast as mine was and i eat him right up with this 450r. the hrc kit for this year it the best bang for the buck that there is. it comes with CRF450cam, high flow header pipe, cdi 1000rpm increase, the jets for the carb and some other little ods and ends. honda realy did there home work in the power department this year and another great thing is the estart button. buy one you wont be dissapointed. better yet if you into moto cross like i am id waight for that suzuki. i wish some one had one that i could ride. mabie ill buy one next year.

 

now if they would only fix the dad gone suspension so we didn't have to spend our own money out of the box adding another 2-3 inches of travel to the machine front and back. I never understood why they didn't just make 10" suspension out of the box like the YFZ, Bomb, Polaris, and now suzuki. I think Honda needs to get off their hi-horse. IAfter all I would put money that maybe 2% of the owners out there ride hair scrambles, or woods only riding on these machines. Where's the suspension for those of that would rather ride mountains, fire roads, desert, dunes, and even trails etc; ?

 

so you know for sure the LTR 450 has 10" of travel, I was looking for that info and couldnt find it anywhere.

 

the 06R engine is a bad@ss, so probly so.

also, would you say that your 06 trx450R OUTHANDLES your 05 YFZ that you had? if anyone has read my posts for the last 2yrs on here, they can tell that i like my 04 450R overall, but i think that honda didnt do a great job in the handling dept of it. > oh, dont get me wrong- it handles good, but i think my 250R still handles a little bit better, JMO so dont start flaming at me! i think it has to do with the center of gravity difference and wheel base of the 2 bikes. the 250R just seems more stable, more balanced, and less squirrelly at high speeds. once again, JMHO of the 2 since i own both.

since i dont own a YFZ, i was wondering what a former owner would say when comparing the 2 bikes' (TRX vs YFZ) handling manners. ive been thinking about getting a 2006 YFZ and was just curious of these things. thanks.

 

I have a 06 TRX and I did have a YFZ I think the honda wins all the way around But Im not a racer, just a rider And I know what I like

 

i dont want to start a "trx/yfz is better war," or anything- but what about the TRX made you think its better than your YFZ? the seat, shocks, engine, what?? what features exactly made you switch machines? just curious. thanks.

the 06 YFZ is supposed to correct its problems of the past and be a little torquier than previous yfz's, thats why im considering it. im in no rush to buy - i like my 450R overall (the shocks in the front, to me, are perfect for OEM) like i said, but am always open to checking out/considering other stuff.
