hardface rocker arms?
#1
I just installed a wiseco 10/1 piston and white brothers all around cam in my '99 400ex. is it necessary to hardface the rocker arms? Also, do you have to manually list your mods at the end of every post or is there an easier way. This is my first post. Thanks

No! You don't have to list your mods EVER again!
I make this remark somewhat in jest; why post, as some do, three pages of mods in the signature accompanying a one-line message? I wonder further at the value of repetitively listing past mods, current mods, and, ultimate folly, FUTURE mods, again, and again, and again . . .
Yet, "Everybody to his own kicks." List what you like, onefasthonda; put what you want into your signature, and post them automatically, again, and again, and again . . .
Really, you don't have to list any mods at all. Your call.
Oh yeah, the rocker arms. I doubt the all-around cam requires hard-facing the rockers; wouldn't hurt, but I doubt you absolutely need this valvetrain upgrade for a cam this conservative.

also you should call white bros. and find out. On webcams webpage they recommend hard faced rockers with all their cams.

My wifes 400EX has the exact same mods as you have done. The piston and cam have been in the bike for about a year and a half without any problems. We did not hard face the rocker arms on hers. On my 440 I did not hard face the rockers the first time I built the motor and payed the price. My 440 has 13:1 w/ full race cam.

My 400 is in the shop being transformed to a 440 11:1 (JE). I'm installing a web cam and my builder told me I didn't have to harden the rockers but I did it anyway. It's cost me $225 including shipping from Megacycle Cams in San Rafael, CA.
I also am have a port job done as well and that cost me $200 from RCR in St. Jacob, IL. I didn't do any thing with my valves or springs.
Along with these mods I've installed a WB R4 pipe and a K&N.
Maybe next year I'll go with a full race cam 13:1 piston bigger valves, and a bigger carb. But for now this is good enough.
I like seeing threads with mods listed for it gives me ideas.
Keep them coming.
