Default Honda 200cc engine help... Please.

Hi there.

I'll just start by saying, I'm new to engines. That's why I need help.

I recently got a Honda 3 wheeler that has been converted to a 4 wheeler. It is a 200cc engine, I believe it may be the Honda 200E Anyways, the problem is, that it just doesn't like to start. But once you get it going, after that, you can usually get it started on one pull. Now, if you let it sit overnight, you're screwed, you gotta go through the whole process again. I find bum starting down the hill works, except, it's winter right now, and the tires don't catch on the snow when you throw it in to gear.

SO! What I'm asking, is there any tricks to getting this pig started? Should I put a bit of gas in the cylender?

Greatly appreciated if you could help!

It may be a choke problem, I would first make sure the choke is really closing(remove the air filter and look down the intake air tube ,look for the choke butterfly to close when you move the choke lever), If its ok It would make sense to remove the carb and clean it. Pay attention to the wear on the needle where it goes thru the main jet, I had a 200x 3 wheeler that had a worn needle and was hard to start cold. My sportsman just had the same problem,It seemed like choke problems but ended up being a valve adjust problem,(the intakes were tight) If its anything like a 200x the valves are not hard to set. Hope that helps

yeah, the choke seems to be functioning properly.... Should I have the choke on when trying to start it up? Also, is it hard to remove the carb? and where would I find this needle inside the carb? what does it look like, and how will I tell if it's worn.

Thanks for the help!

could be the valves. my cousin has a little yamaha 80 electric start that would wear the battery down before it would start, you had to get it to the top of a hill, choke it, put it in 3rd and roll down the hill til it eventually started. my uncle tore it down and adjusted the valves. I think he said his exhaust valves were tight, and once he adjusted em properly it would start right up from cold. before he solved the problem it would start from warm all the time also, just like your problem.

So, I'm going to be cleaning the carb, and looking for this needle.... Should I try the Gas in the cylender trick?

Also, where are the valves you mentioned MaddMatt?

Really appreciate all the help fellas.
