Default 450R Headlight Conversion

Hello guys,

I'm normally in the Bombardier section but I think in 06 I see a 450R in my future. I rode a first year model and it had a cam and unlike the KEEP IT REVVED OUT at all times YFZ the 450 had a wider powerband and it seemed to have a bit more power down low. It also felt more egronomically fitting than the small and crampy YFZ. How are the newer 450Rs? Is the powerband now similar to the YFZ? Would an HRC kit make it a little friendlier to ride?

Last but not least, I don't know why (and I may get flammed for this) did Honda changed the headlight? I think the older style gave it more distinction. So if I bought a newer style 450R can I convert the newer headlight on it over to an older style headlight?

From one Bomb -turn-red guy to another, The R has a "grand canyon" wide power band probably due to the 12.0:1 comp ratio. I installed the HRC kit on mine when new so I can't talk to the power increase but I can say that it has impressed the hell out of me. I'm a duner and just sold the, buttloads-o-torque DS. I was afraid that I would have a hard time adjusting to the difference in power but nothing doing. I shift a little more often but there is plenty of torque on tap and there is really no reason to paste the red line unless you are in a situation that calls for it. During break-in I kept the throttle at or below half most of the time with short, infrequent wide-open bursts, With that control, I could still go anywhere and do anything I wanted to on the dunes at Dumont.

As for the head light, I can't answer that one I never considered a swap. The plastic has changed quit a bit so I would guess that you would have to change more then just the front piece in order to have everything allign. I plan to buy the Trail tech X-bars and riser then add their HID lights. If its lighting you want, this is it.

Hey JS!!

Was wondering where you went hahaha. No I'm never getting rid of the DS, but might the Craptor or just have 3 bikes. I am looking forward to getting one next year. This year is finish my Project DS and pay off all the bills. Any other recommendations?

The lights is simply cosmetic. I just like the look of the older style light. I was thinking the headlights and the front cowl peice would be involved. I guess I am the only doofus looking to do the change. Hopefully someone will chime in and let me know.

I'v heard many say they like the old over the new. I liked it better myself but the single light is growing on me now.
The only other mod that I have planned is to have the shocks resprung and valved cuz they are just too stiff right now. I'm thinking about letting Works Perf do the work, they did me right on the bomb.

The best $388 I have ever spent. I have their triple spring kit now. I have them set for a fat guy on the dunes and they are perfect. The little 150 pound people say it is too rough, but my bigger friends love it.

As for the head light, it looks like the front clip needs changed to change the light.
