Honda GN4 oil, It holds about a qt and a half. No filter.
Pinging? Old gas, new plug. (Under a load ping or a rod knocking type ping??)
My idea of Pinging and yours may be differant.

I use synthetic Shell Rotella T in everything I own.

I had a Saturn that used to ping from time to time, I usually just put in either premium gas or some octane boost, usually took care of the problem.

Pick a Motorcycle Specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA. Some good basic oil info.: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

The synthetics have many advantages over petroleum oils, and the ester synthetics have some advantages over the other two types of synthetics.

My personal preference is Maxima Extra, an Ester Synthetic: http://www.maximausa.com/technical/l...beNews2002.pdf

I just gave my quad an oil change with a synthetic 10/40 Mobil motorcycle oil, now before that I was just runing Mobil 10/30 but, WHAT A DIFFERENCE IT RUNS LIKE NEW , with the motorcycle oil it runs thru the gears so much better, not to mention it feels hella stronger so, my pick would be the synthetic Mobil 10/40 motorcycle. If you want something cheaper I believe Vavoline makes a special oil just for ATV's some of my friends use that one and it's also a good oil.

ATVrider-The "car" oil you were using before, no doubt had some molly in it that was most likely making your clutch slip. Plus car oils don't contain the high pressure additives to protect your transmission gears. The Mobil 1 MX4T that you are now running is JASO MA and good stuff.
