I love my 2000 400 EX, when it runs! I have done some serious work as you can tell by my signature but I have had many problems and some I caused myself. I bought it used which I greatly regret. It appears as if the previous owner ran it out of oil and wrecked it severely. The frame is bent but it is hard to tell without measuring. My local dealer has had the motor apart 3 times. I ran through a big mud hole with no airbox lid, another big mistake. My K&N sucked a little mud in. I changed the oil and cleaned everything. After 3 hours of riding it smoked like a crop duster. I took it to the dealer for a 440 kit. I rode the 440 for a month before I took it back again. It was smoking and clanging. One of the oil rings had been boogered during assembly and scored the sleeve heavily. We put all new top end in again. Got it home and it knocked a little when cold. The more I rode it the worse it got. Another teardown found the rod to be trashed. Ok total $1300 later and its finally running right. Research told us that the origional owner ran it out of oil because everything inside the engine was scuffed up and the cam chain was even whipped. The new cam chain was 70 bucks but even improved power because the old one was loose enough to retard the timing quite a bit. When i got ready to put the motor back on I noticed what was left of my swingarm needle bearings, they were ground up like coffee. I love my 400EX but my dealer has had it more than I have. It runs perfect now but i will surely lose lots of money when I go to sell it. Its 453 now and runs perfect, I still love Honda's!!

No question about it, White Brothers pipe is the best!!! Buy it! Hey BigBore440 how'd u get a 17b tooth on the front, doesn't it rub the case??Where can I get one, I had to remove my case saver because I'm runnig a 16 now, theres not much room!

Hey Fast453..I am not a wrencher...Bought my 440 off a cat over the mountain/with all the paperwork and specs.I can admit when I am wrong, you can't let pride stand in your way and sometimes you got to choke on it.This my friend is one of those times.I saw your reply with your question and had to investigate the situation.. I have a 16 tooth front on my machine not a 17.You were right there isn't much room at all and the rubber around the swingarm bushing,I believe it goes to the chain wear rubber, has been shaved at that.I will hence amend my signature...How do you like the twist throttle??I also run cam 2 116,but have been cutting it with 94 and it loves it...I figure it to be about 105...

Ok, thanks. I hate my twist throttle, I recently removed it, the spring was not strong enough to return the throttle! (cruise control) I wasn't used to it and it was more difficult for me to ride wheelies and get big air so I removed it.
