I have a 400EX but would like to build a project 250R. Where can I buy just the motor/trans? Am I going to have to find a 250R quad and buy it to get the engine/trans. ,radiator.
Years ago I had a 1986 250R, Im sorry I ever sold it.

 

Try TJ Parts express 1800 2569309.They are the best for OEM parts.Servicehonda.com also sells complete new motors.Get a price from TJ first,I bet they are a lot cheaper.Any big speed shop will probably sell you a race motor,wont be cheap though.

 

try locating a 1986 250r three wheeler
you can still get them for a reasonable price and resell what you don't need

Thanks to the both of you for your help, the hunt is on! This project is going to take a while to complete, figured I would ride the 400ex and spend money on this project when I have it.

 

Try calling "BURGARDS" the # is 717-225-6234, they told me$850.00 few months ago for stock motor.

 

i tried burgards also. they told me 1200 with electronics. i'm doing the same thing as you. i started from the frame up. all i really need now is a radiator,motor which will be here tomarrow, gastanks, and alot of little stuff, but to get back to your question. i bought mine used from someone in the atvconection classifieds. just rebuild it and get them to send it COD

 

Hey 400exalltheway...what kind of shocks/ A-arms are you putting on 250R? I can not decide which ones to go with. Gastank... Have you given any thought to a xtra capacity aftermarket tank?
If I neede one I would the extra cap. tank.

 

i'm using TCS front shocks, and burgards +2+1 a-arms.

 

i no where theres a bran new 250r motor with transmission & carb for about $600-700
