ok i was reading at curtis spark's web site about how with their 416 kits and stuff that you should get a heavy duty rod and stuff....
ok well im getting an 87mm (416) piston, web mild cam, ct rev kit, port and polish....would this require that? and how come their kit even minus the carb and clutch which i dont need now are so much more expensive...i think with labor and everything all my modifications should cost around 600.....their cost is like 1700....thanks for any help

The rod is suggested for very high performance engines. What you are planning should be fine.
On the porting, just do mild cleanup work and portmatch the intake and exhaust, that should be all it needs unless you go much further with your engine.
A 3 angle valve job is just the correct way, nothing exotic. There are 3 angles cut on the valve and seat that attempt to make the fuel/air mix flow better across this area. There are more exotic methods, but the gains from either are minimal.

Hey Gabe, short story for ya. Went to pick up my Quad from my dealer (they sell everything but Honda) and it hurts them them that they sold me my 400ex. Anyway, they told me it ran worse than stock and I should ride it. I laid into it and it rode like the boot was off the carb (sputtering) and I asked what happened and they said they didn't know. I pulled my rear fender off to check if the boot fell off the carb or if the lid was on/off and where the choke was....
THEY duct taped my air intake shut. I will get revenge....This was at 9:00pm tonight so i have no clue how it really runs because it was starting to snow and I had an 80 mile trip back north to Des Moines.

Gabe...Rick Ritter told me that 400's already have a 3 angle valve job from the factory. I know he is known for Polaris set ups, but he works on all of them. I guess he builds some wicked 250R's. RCR is porting my 440 as we speak. Rick showed me his flow bench and that is a very interesting process.
