I'd go with Mobil 1 10-30 oil because it's synthetic and you get a little more clutch life because of it. As far as the oil filter goes just drop on by your honda dealer and they'll have one in stock. Good luck, Dave

Don't use a synthetic that has moly in it for it will make your clutch slip on the 400EX, so I am told. I use Castrol GTX 20-50 in the Summer and 10-40 when it gets colder. EX's run hot, therefore I change my oil every 8-10 hours, even then the oil starts to turn brown.

As far as the filter goes it shouldnt cost any more then 4.50 i'd imagine. Oil price depends on what kind of oil you use. I've never heard of the synthetic making the clutch slip but then again i dont own a 400EX so i could be mistaken. If 10-30 is too thin for you liking i'd reccomend 15-30 thats all around good oil.
