If you are riding on any kind of federal or state land, you will need one. Trailriding when everything is dry, you should have one. Unless you are racing/running a closed course, you SHOULD have one anyway. A year or two ago there was actually a guy that was fined for starting a forest fire due to not having a spark arrestor. If I wasn't so lazy right now I would search for the thread, lol.

Default exaust question!

It won't make your engine blow! How would it make your engine blow?

anyways, I never saw a big issue of not having one on a 4 stroke, other than to meet requirements of certain riding areas. I don't have one on my hmf, and never once did I see a spark come out of it, nor did anybody else that I was riding with. I've seen 8 inch fireballs come out of the hmf, but a spark arrestor won't make a difference for that.

Now a 2 stroke on the other hand should have one, i've witnessed my cousin's lt250r shooting sparks out like the 4th of july after wide open runs because of all the carbon buildup they get in those huge exhaust chambers.

The local ATV mechanic said you should raise your neddle on the carb witch means to lower the clip a notch or 2 after removing the baffle to prevent hole in piston or a burnt valve
