Is spinning the wheels in a feild and doing donuts on grass or ice bad for the bearings? I don't fell like putting in another set anytime soon!

I`m not sure. It sounds like you and one of my buddies have similar riding styles. And you both go through bearings like there is no tommarow! If you can avoid it I would try and keep your donuts down to a minimum. Only do it when you need to turn around. We went riding last weekend and at the end of the day I was riding his and he was behind me and after I went through a creek crossing, the rear end was steaming big time. Well he rode it back to camp and when he got home and took apart his rear end he onl yhad like 2 bearings left! So if you dont mind replacing those then by all means spin those donuts, but if you would rather be riding I would stop that habit soon. good Luck

Water is usually the main problem from driving in too much water all the time...yes your spinouts and stuff will make them wear out. I've had to replace my bearings in my atv 2 times in the last year, mainly because I ride in too much water...so now I replace the grease every couple of weeks to keep the bearings last longer, thats what you should do.

Keeping water out of your bearings should be your main concern. Two wheeling puts a side load on them some of the time but under normal conditions it wont affect them. Just keep them greased and check your seals periododically. But you have to keep water out of them at all costs cause they sometimes arent fun or cheap for that matter to replace. Dave

My bearings went to pots on my 250x. How could it be from spin outs? its the same as going down the road at 50? o well.. but my bearings came out and it screwed up the whole axle carrier. I'm getting my 400EX REAL soon.

Another VOTE (not a dimpled chad either) for water being the number one enemy of bearings. Heck those things are made to do donuts on if you ask me. They are not made to be ridden in water for hours and then taken home and shoved in the corner of the garage with no maintenance. HA!
Sorry the vote reference was pretty lame.

keep the water and grit out of them and they will last forever..I pull the seals out and clean with paint thinner then re-greese with waterproof marine greese every 2 years and have never had one fail on any of my machines.
