Default Rancher electrical problem

My 2003 Rancher was working fine until yesterday when I went to start it; electrically, it was dead. No dash lights, starter wouldn't work. I checked all the usual stuff--kill switch, battery, fuses...everything is good. I tried jumping it with another atv, but nothing; all I got was some sparking off the battery post, when I hit the start button. It will start if I use the recoil. I'm hoping maybe I just need a new battery, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this. I really hate to have to take it into the dealer. Any help would be appreciated.

I would check the lead between the battery and the starter. Use a test light at the starter and check to see if it lights up when you push the starter button.

Also, the starter button may be bad or at least the wire's bad.

I thought about the neutral switch, but if that was bad, it wouldn't start with recoil either.

Just thinking "out-loud."

Have the battery load tested, sounds like its either dead, or the connections to it are corrorded.
