Default Rancher valve adjustment - TDC mark

I got to this point because of the reasons stated in the topic "Rancher - choke or rich mix or?"

In short, I'm replacing the choke components in my 02 rancher 4x4 ES and thought I'd check my valves while I was at it. I know from searching this forum that valve clearance should be .006. Likewise, I know that you can see the chisel marks for TDC on the flywheel by removing the chrome Allen wrench plug near the footbrake.

I do not have an owner's manual. I have adjusted valves before in cars and my kids' atvs, however.

What I dont know is what mark to line up with the "window" when the plug is removed. There's a chisel mark with a "P", one with a "T" I think and a double chisel mark, at least.

I could feel slight play at a the rockers at the P and double mark, I think. What is the appropriate mark?

Also, the engine hasn't been cranked in about 24 hours but it is about 90 deg F outside. Should I wait to set the clearance until in the a.m. when its around 70?

Thanks
Rodney

Its the T mark, and you can also just slowly rotate the motor with the rope , and spark plug removed, to any point that the rocker is on the base circle of the cam. It doesnt have to be exactly on the t.
Either temp is fine. The spec is really at 68 degrees, but the clearance isnt gonna change that much at 90.
As long as the gas tank will be off...you might as well add an inline fuel filter, it wont ever be easier.
