We set out with a max budget of $1500 for what will basically be used as a yard/work machine. Generally you can't find anything 4x4 for that so we'd been looking at 2wd Yamaha Bear Tracker's and Kawasaki Buyou's etc....
This guy was selling a Bear Tracker for $1500 so we were going to look at it but it sold. He then told me he also had a 1997 Polaris 400 Sportsman and a 2000 Honda Rancher. To be honest we went there to try and talk him down to $1500 from $1700 for the Polaris. But open arrival the Honda looked like it was a much better deal at $1900 than the Polaris would have been a $1500.
Then I rode the Honda real quick down the road and back and I was impressed with how strong the engine pulled and how comfortable it was to ride. At that point was was sold.
So Tuesday I'll go pick it up and put it to work right away. Any 4x4 for that price is a good deal, but it seems like a Honda 4x4 for under 2k was impossible to pass up. It could use some tires, they are OE and they are balding, and you can tell the thing has some hours on it, but it runs great and it looks decent enough.
I guess I'm going to find out if all you Honda guys have been lying to me all these years or not....lol I'm banking on that legendary Honda reliability.

Get a Warn 424! It will disconnect the front wheel drive, to give you a selectable 2wd/4wd. Steering will be easier, and you will like it even better!
Pretty low prices. Makes you wonder what's wrong with it???? I have an 4X4 Rancher, and I wouldn't sell it for twice that price........

Yea the guy has several ATVs and needed to move some I guess so his prices were very reasonable.
As far as what's wrong with it, like I said it's been used good. The tires and grips are worn right down, you can tell it's got some hours on it. But I looked it over pretty good and it seems solid all around. It runs really strong.
But if you look at NADA the 2000 350 Honda Rancher 4x4 lists at $2400 high/avg retail price and $2000 for low retail so it was pretty close to bluebook value.
