#1
i have a guy offering me a 98 300 ex as a partial trade on my jeep here what he says he has
It has new front plastic, new dual halogen
headlights, new front Itp tires and Rims, 70% Itp
rear tires, New Oneal Speed sprocket, oneal wide
handlebars, full dg exhaust, k&n jet kit, and new
switches with racing kill switch. Books for
1800.
very clean and very fast. Runs great.
whats this worth?
if i go to look at it it there any problem areas i should check out?
does this year have reverse?
can i trail ride with this quad or is more for racing?

In good shape, 1800 is a good price. The 300ex is a great trail quad, very light, easy to whip around tight trails. I've seen a few raced, but it isn't the most powerful quad at 282 cc's, but with a pipe, filter and jetting, it will not dissapoint you. All years of 300ex had reverse, typical Honda overkill for safety, have to be in Neutral, hit a red button by the clutch, pull in clutch, reach down with right hand, pull up lever, back up,then pull clutch, push down lever, and take off forward, pretty fast once you get used to it. My son is 168 lbs, 5' 10", and he has lots of fun with it, jumping and wheelies are easy with it. Motor is rock solid, besides oil changes and filter cleaning, I haven't touched it in 3 years. Drive chain adjustment is a snap, 2 bolts, rotate the carrier, and it's done. My son's is a 99, when I bought it, in excellent shape, I paid 2900, so you are getting a good deal, especially with all the extras.

that helps im perty big guy but my buget has constraned me to riding a 86 LT230 (its tough have toys with kids) its not a bad quad but its beat and has a little rouble pulling me around at speed
one more dumb question does it have a clutch?
i just wanted to know if it would do what i want. its going to be confined to woods riding with a run accrost a field or two if i take it as a trade

Yup, manual clutch 5 speed with reverse, very smooth shifter, with a good strong clutch, it should haul you around no problem, the old 230 was a little low on power, a nice trail quad, but not a lot you could do for the motor power wise. It is a great woods trail quad, you can get it into tight spots and steer around trail obstacles real easy. Top speed is about 50 - 55 mph, depending on your gearing, and how much the quad has to haul ( no offense intended !! )
