Default 400ex chain/brake guard

My chain and brake guard fell off today. I think I lost a bolt and a piece rusted off. Are these things expensive to buy? I noticed that the guard is pretty heavy and I imagine I must get some performance from having it off...

It is called a swingarm skid.

There are a hundred companies that make aftermarket replacements (I run DG), or you can just get another OEM one if you so desire. They don't last forever. I usually am replacing my skids every 2-3 years.

Is it bad to run without it?

I was driving without it today and the chain fell off the back sprocket. I put the chain back on and I'm wondering if

1)This is a normal thing to happen if the swingarm skid is off
2)The chain has become worn and loose so I will need a new one.
