Default 1990 TRX300 fuel problems

I have a 1990 TRX300 4trax that is in cherry condition. It has been in storage for the past year and I brought it home for a little fun. I changed the battery and it fire up right away and ran a little rough. I decided to drain off the old gas by pulling the line between the tank valve and the carb. After adding fresh gas I cannot get the engine to run. I did cheat and tried a little starter fluid and it would fire and die. Here is what I've checked:

1) Fuel tank valve is open a flows.
2) Gas tank cap valve is in the "on" position.
3) The primer is a little stiff and I did get a drop of gas from the primer area when I pushed it pretty hard.
4) Air filter cleaned.
5) Couldn't find the fuel strainer/filter. The manual show a fuel line exiting the tank valve straight down and the strainer following the valve. My fuel line exits from a 3 o'clock position and attaches using a nipple.

What am I missing? Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated!

Oh yea, your float is coated with crap gas crystals. Just do as he said and take it off and clean it out and clean the jets and everything, make sure every crystal is out of there before putting it back together.

On my 91 the fuel exits at 3 Oclock but the strainer is below the valve at 6 Oclock. I dont have the bike here now but it seems like I used a 10mm to unscrew the thing and pulled the screen straight down out of the valve.
