Default 300ex swingarm mod/truth or fiction?

I've heard the 300 has a hunger for rear axle bearings. My stock units are still holding up, but I know my day is coming. One guy brought up an interesting(?) idea. He said he was replacing bearings at a pretty fast clip. So he drilled (4) holes in the carrier housing section of the swingarm. (2) were tapped to accept grease fittings, (2) served as "relief" holes to keep from blowing out the o-rings, and to visually inspect for clean lube. He said he routinely lubed the fittings and never replaced the bearings again.
Note: Also said he sold it 18 months later.
Although I've done similar mods to commercial equip. with positive results, I'm in no hurry to start drilling my swingarm. It did make me curious enough to ask you guys for thoughts on this???

I hear alot of people doing this and have always wondered if they were using sealed bearings or if they took the seals off them. If they didn't take the seals off, and almost all aftermarket axle bearings are sealed, it would do no good at all. (at least for the bearings) On a 300, you would have to drill the swing arm and the carrier in order to get grease in to the bearings. BUT, that could also let the grease go around the carrier and not even get to the bearings.
I really don't know about it. It sounds like a good idea, but just putting grease fittings in the swingarm wouldn't help without doing alot of other things.
