Default 300ex real one i messed up last one

my friend is looking to buy an atv hes 14 and he thinks he wants a 450 all he is going to do is ride trails and he has little riding experience i told him to get a 300ex because it has the clutch if he goes to a dealer they will put him on a 250ex because of his lack of experience. thats what i have and he rides it. is the 300ex a good bike for him and when he gets more experience he can add mods to make it faster.

a 450 for a 14yo? that sounds a little overkill to me. The 300ex is very reliable and would fit him perfectly.

i think you are giving him great advice. the 300ex is smaller and easier to handle in the trails

At 14 with little experience, he doesn't need a 450, or the extra maintenance they require. The 300EX or something similar is definately what he should be looking at. The 300 won't require as frequent oil changes, doesn't run on premium gas, and is nearly indestructable. All things that will keep his parents happy too.

im 14 and i have a 250, it suites me fine, you dont need tons and tons of power if you are gonna ride trails too. my 250 is as good as any other quad on the trails

jjjbob, I am sorry, but I don't believe an 11 y/o is physically or mentally mature enough to handle a 400. At some point, that 400 is in control a lot more than any 11 y/o I have ever seen. Same thing with the ooriginal poster asking about a 14 y/o. By 14, many kids are physically strong enough to handle a 400 or 450, but are they truely smart enough to ride responsibly 100% of the time?

What's up dude, I lived in Rochester for 23 years! I think your question comes down to the rider. My dad gave me my first bike when I was 5 and I've ridden ever since. I was taught to respect the throttle from day one, but of course I did some stupid stuff. I'm 27 now, ride a CR500 and still do stupid things once in a while.
