im 6ft 4 and about 250lbs looking at getting a new a 400 or 450.will be riding dirt roades as well as trailes /track.I want something that has good power that im not going to have to get a lot of upgrades on.I have also heard that the 450 are hard to maintain as far as the up keep and maintance is this true? is it going to cost alot to keep a 450 running or am I going to be working on it all the time?thanks for your feed back.

The 450 would be better for your size. They have quite a bit more power than the 400s, too.
Also, the maintanence shouldn't be that bad. Ive heard that two strokes are lot harder to
maintain than four strokes, too.

I disagree, if I were to buy myself a quad I would prefer an older quadracer or 250r than a 4 stroke. 2 strokes require a topend more often, but it can be done in a couple hours and is much cheaper. This could be due to the fact that I have limited experience wrenching 4 strokes, but I would rather grenade and rebuild a 2 stroke than a 4 stroke any day!

Well...im close to your size minus a few pounds and your going to feel cramped up on almost any quad..specially the 400s or 450s. I would get one of the 450s...they seem to last fine if they are taken care of and maintained proper.

the 450s are great. id get one if i were you, more power for your bigger size. actually i would be considering a different brand, like maybe a raptor. bigger people fit better on those. as far as maintenence, a four stroke is eaiser as you rarely need to change plugs, and change oil less often. when major issues come along, like top end and other things, they are harder and more expensive, but occur less often

i would at least go look at the raptor, i am honda thru and thru, but it is not worth being that cramped up. the yamaha is a bigger bike, and that might feel better.

It depends what year 450 you are going for. my 06 requires me to change the engine oil ever 12-15 hours and transmission about every 25 hours. The engine only holds about 3/4 of a quart, and the tranny holds about 1 quart. other than that they are really easy to take care of. Depending on the price, i would go with a 450. but the new 400 have reverse and i loved my old one. but like everyone else said, get what feels the most comfortable to you. i hate riding a buddy's quad, because it feels so weird.
