Depends !! What kind of mods on both machines? How good of riders are both of you? How long of a race?
My son talks trash all the time, but has yet to beat me. With the mods listed below, and my 400 stock, it was a good close race. But, I STILL WON ! I also go about 140lbs more than him to. If the Blaster has some motor work, like porting, he might surprise you.
By the way, welcome to the forums!!

LMAO ?
I don't get it? Try asking it in the Yamaha section (or just do a search) or on one of the Blaster only forums. It does not take alot of money to make the Blaster run REALLY well!! AND, there are alot more, very well running Blasters out there, than you might think. It should be fairly easy to tell if its modded alot before you ever line'em up. Stock for stoc, the 400 will win. Stock 400 to modded Blaster, you might not want to wager more than your willing to lose. It could be a better race than you think.

IMOP... I had a 2001 Honda 300ex FMF Full Exhaust, UNI Filter, Jetted modified AIR box, and I worked blasters all day,,, thats on a 300ex... I am a experienced rider but that only goes so far... Unless the blaster has engine work you should be just fine.... do me a favor, pull a wheelie when you are pulling right past him ....

asfasasu3 those mods are nothing you dont even have it bored out? my blaster beats a stock 400ex and piped 400exs about 50% of the time it's all about the drivers skill when it comes to piped 400s

I have seen some pretty sick blasters and it does not take much to make them fast. Port and pipe and you wont have a chance. I was at the dunes about a month ago and there was a blaster there with a 13yo kid smokin stock banshees. I could not believe it. His dad built it and it was very quick.

i think one of the main reasons for seeing so many sick blasters is you can get some relaly cheap. Near me i see 2000 blasters for for about $1200 or so and sometimes cheaper. When you get one that cheap you got a lot more money for mods and stuff.

That is why I am thinking of getting a Blaster. Cheap. Stick it in the garage and work on it over the years and give it to the kid when he is old enough to ride it.
