so you said that you have a 170 jet, was that stock form the factory? i was looking at your pics, i bought the exact same 450, black is the best. that is really weird that they put a 120 in mine and said that was sea level size. it just does not make sense.

No stock is 120 and I changed to a 170 and it seems to be just about perfect here. I still think you need to bump up a bit cause they come so lean from the factory. Is everthing tight, like the two bands that tighten down the carb? Are there any cracks in the plastic hose's leading to the carb. We got to get yours running right. I'd start with the lid off and bump up one or two sizes from stock. Make sure there genuine Keihnin jets from honda. Dont tighten them down too much, we dont want to strip them out and have an even bigger problem. Is your fuel flowing freely from the line. My be it's clog and when you open it up it's missing cause of lack of fuel. try running on reserve it comes thru another filter in the tank. Good luck and dont give up. I'm sure it's something simple.

appreciate the support. i actually did go to a 118 and took the air lid off and that was good to about 80 percent throttle and then i lost power. so i actually went to take that out and put the stock back in and the jet fell out of the carberator. like it came loose and just fell out. i have put many jets in bikes and never had this problem. so i went to put it back in and got it finger tight, than gave it a quarter of a turn and the jet SNAPPED OFF in the carberator. i think that it was a faulty jet. there is no way that i could have done that. i thought that that threads would have stripped long before that would have happened. anyway it is in the shop now. one other thing, how often does your electric fan kick in?? i have never heard mine run, not even idoling. so i am waiting for the honda shop to call and tell me what they have going on. i will keep you posted.

If stock is 120 and you dropped to a 118 AND took your airbox lid off, you were WAY lean. That is why it would fall on it's face at 80% throttle. Keep riding it like that and you would have burned it up!
Bummer about the jet snapping off. I've never heard of that happening.
My '04 came with a 118 stock main now I run a 185 main and a 50 pilot as opposed to the 48 stock pilot and dropped the clip on the needle to the bottom.
I have a 480 kit, Stage II Hotcam, Uni filter,HRC lid, ported and polished head and an FMF Q2 slip on.

well first of all red400exrod, i would like to say thanks to youre son as well for his braverey and courage to stand up for this country!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but was i was saying is that i had the 120 in and took the airbox lid off, and it still fell on its face at 80%. i only ran that for about 3 minutes. so i then out of curiosity put everything back together and put the 118 in. same thing. so if i were to say put in a 122 or 126 in. does it react the same when it is to rich and it did to lean????

chenoweth, thanks for the support of my son, we are very proud of him.
If it's running too rich it won't fall as flat on top as it would if it was too lean. Check your spark plug color. A properly jetted engine should have a tan color to the plug. White color = too lean,, dark brown to black = too rich.
Even at 3500 feet elevation if you pull your lid you should still bump your main to at least 150 or 160 IMO.
You won't damage your engine by running too rich but you will by running too lean.
