rancher fan

I just ordered a fan for my 06 rancher and have some questions.
Where is the best wire to tap into where my fan will run when the engine is on?
Does the fan need to be pointed towards the oil cooler or towards the engine?
Will running the fan all the time cause the fan to overheat and die?

When I say direct when the engine is on what I really meant is wth the use of a toggle switch, but I will probably leave it on during the hot months so it will be on soon as I turn the key. Also acourding to the service manual the fan should be pointed towards the oil cooler which would mean the motor on the fan should be facing the motor of the atv.

mine has a fan and its only kicked on maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 40 times ive rode.with the exception of being cooled off in a water hole or three, you really dont need the fan. why did you buy one?did you have one already and it broke? but if that was the case you would already know were to run the wires.

if i'm not mistaken, isnt the wire plug-in already there for the fan, even on the 2wd's??? As far as i know, the thermo-switch that turns the hot light on also turns the fan on.
the plug-in should be toward the front somewhere, way up above the front wheels, up under the main front plastic piece. Look around for that.
the fan should blow the air towards the motor when it runs, mounted to the rear of the oil cooler.
I'll look at my Honda manual wiring diagrams, it has all the wiring diagrams for all the ranchers, 2wd, 4wd, canada models, USA models, etc. I'll get back to you...

i looked in my 2004 Rancher service manual, and The wiring is all there for the fan. The fan assembly itself actually has some wiring to it, it's a few feet long, it plugs into 2 connectors that are tie-strapped to the frame, near the right inner fender area. the wire colors on the vehicle is a blue and white wire for an '04, might be different for '06. When the fan runs, it should blow air towards the engine.

thats a waste of battery power and fuel...it takes me miles of riding in the heat for the fan to kick on
