Starting Problem, help
#1
I have a 2003 trx400ex (electric start). When I try to start it, all i hear is the starter. Sometimes i can hear the engine trying to turn on, but it doesn't. Is this problem caused by a weak battery? When i push the atv from 2nd gear, it starts and everything is fine. Thanks for the help.

When you say all you hear is the starter...does it mean its spinning...or just clicking?
If it is just clicking and doesnt spin, clean up the battery terminals, and cable ends. If that doesnt help, get the battery load tested.

You have a low battery. Try charging it with a trickle charger and as mentioned, clean the connections.
I have at times jumped my sons 400ex with a jumper box.

Yep, just make sure the donor car is NOT running, and its ok. If the car is running, the alternator can put out 15 or more volts, which will trash the quads electrics. If the motor is off, all thats put out is 12.7

So all I do on the car is turn the key once, as if I just wanted to listen to the radio?

Just use the jumper cables, and no key at all in the car. Dont worry about running the car battery down...it has much more capasity than a quad battery.

So i should connect the batteries and then what? I don't even put the keys into the car ignition? How long should i keep them connected? Should i start the atv while the batteries are connected? Thanks
