Default 400ex gurus help a newbie!

Hey. I have an '04 300ex (yeah... I know...) and I'm selling it to buy a nice little pre-'05 400ex project bike. All I really need to know is if anything major changed on the pre-'05 quads from the start of the model's years. Take for example the '01 Raptor. If you're looking for a used Raptor, you don't buy an '01. They blow up. Anybody who's anybody knows that. Are there any 400ex years like that? Howabout that cast aluminum linkage-type swingarm setup ...were they ever steel?

-Thanks!

(...I lied. Anybody who's anybody buys a Honda.)

I had a 2000 a 2001 and a 2002 and they were all excellent quads. There really isn't any particular year that is especially good or bad but I have to say that I've seen 99's give more trouble than average but they might just be isolated incidents.

Thanks! Keep it comin'!

Just read some of you other posts and it looks like you might be a valuble asset to my 400ex build. I'm not a retard, I just need to know little stuff like the head gasket thing. I've been through a few engines myself. Hope you don't mind being bothered every now and then.
