I recently bought my first quad; a 2000 400EX. I need a little help with the mods. Everything is stock except for a Motion Pro twist throttle. I cant do much to it because i am only 17, and i no longer have a job. Please tell me anyway to make my quad faster, lighter, all around better using the least amount of money as possible

Try a 14 tooth counter shaft sprocket, bout $30 for a decent one and will give you lots for low end, lost a little top end. I think it's work the trade off.

I'd say the 14 tooth sprocket is definitely the best bang for the buck. Also, you can modify the airbox lid to help out airflow a little, and rejet to compensate. What I did to my airbox lid is drill a 3" hole at the rear of the lid, and put a 3" ABS pipe vented end cap (available at hardware store) in the hole, which made a 3" by 2" deep port into the airbox. This keeps the big chunks outta the airbox, and also keeps water and mud from getting directly on the air filter (since the 'port' is behind the filter). This will also be much cheaper, and should flow more air than half a dozen of those 1" filtered plugs everyone is using.
