I have a 2000 450ES and have been having the foillowing problem since I bought it in April/2000 . When I'm driving along the dash blanks out for approx. 1-2 seconds , and when it comes back on , the clock and trip have been reset. It doesnt seem to happen for any specific reason, just seems to happen at random. Whether the bike is hot/cold , wet/dry, it doesnt matter. It can even happen when the bike is sitting idle. The dealer has replaced just about every part you can imagine ( cdi,sensors,dash,etc... ) and cannot seem to get it fixed. Bike works fine otherwise but this is getting so annoying you have no idea ! I bought the bike brand new.
If anyone out there is having the same problems , please let me know ot let me know how you resolved it. Thanks.

Have you replaced the lithium (back-up) battery in the speedometer pod yet?

Think of the bright side. You will have the lowest mileage 450 ES around!!

The actual speedo doesnt reset , only the trip and clock. And yes , they replaced the whole dash at 2000km and I now have 200km on the bike ! )

Sounds like the computer to me. That is what controls the system and I believe the mileage. Although it could be as simple as a short...
Good Luck.....keep us posted.

i know you said the dealer have checked or replaced everything..i would get the service manual and trace all the grounds thru out the quad..theres a good chance you have a bad ground,if you have a bad, loose ground it can cause these symptoms..i know in autos we have had alot of computer problems caused by bad grounds..if its not a bad ground, trace all the wires to all the plug connectors and check them as well as look for any wires damaged or pinched..good luck

The dealer "said" they checked all the connections/sensors/grounds. I have had it back 5 times now with this very problem. I guess I may have to find it myself it seems. I was hoping someone else suffered from a similiar problem so I could at least know where to start. ( not that I wish this on anyone else !
