I heard that 400ex's are bad quads casue there air cool is that true or not???

They are not bad at all just outdated. The 400ex has been around for a very long time, basicly unchanged and is proven very reliable. It is a decent quad if you want a 400cc quad but there is better ones like the z400 or kawi 400. Why are you thinking of the 400?

 

I want to start racing and for trail riding

 

Then a better out of the box 400 would be the z or kawi.

 

I loved my 400, it will need a pipe and air filter but other than that it's super reliable and well balanced.

 

the 400ex is a great reliable quad as was mentioned but if you plan on racing which sounds like you want some more speed then go with the kawi or suzuki

 

Trail riding with the occasional mx track thrown in, the Honda is fine. Look elsewhere if you want to race.

 

My 300 Honda 4x4 is good for hitting jumps at a buddys mx track, not that fast but fun to jump and good trail bike. hahah well it isnt the best but i like hittin the table top. But i am gettin a 400 sometime.

 

What do you mean by bad???

The 400EX is one of the most reliable machines of all time (along with the Honda 300 ute and maybe the Honda 300EX). I ride desert, and have never had any problems with one overheating. Only place I notice it is if I pull a big dune, I can feel the power fade some as the engine gets a little hot........no big deal!
