K&N vs UNI air filters on 400ex
#1
I was going to put a new air filter on my 400ex and I was told that the K&N's let dust get in the engine but the UNI air filters work great and stop everything. The guy that told me had used both on his 400ex. Is there any truth to the K&N letting in dust? I always thought K&N was the best. Please respond. Thanks

I have a UNI on my 400EX and I really like it. I ride with a guy who has a K&N on his 400 he also has a prefilter. So far neither of us have had any problems. We both ride in extremely dusty conditions at times.

I personally prefer UNI myself (or stock) over the K&N filter. My 30th RamAir T/A had a K&N in it and i always worried about the dirt and the cleaning method of it, so i changed to a FRAM filter. According to the Dyno here in town it didnt raise the horsepower level to warrant the risk of letting dirt in. just my thoughts on it though, if its not good enough for my cars then its not good enough for my toys...

Hey Steve, You have a 30th Ann. TA huh? Sweet man, I have a 99 TA with a WS6 hood. Any mods to your 30th? I have so much trouble deciding if I want to spend my $$ on the TA or my 400ex. I hate it!! What you runnin in the 1/4 with the TA?
On the filter subject, I had a K&N w/ outerwear on my 250R and it never let dust in. Just make sure you use an outerwear and oil it well. I have a Uni on my 400ex. Either one will work fine, just oil it and keep it clean.

Go to the CT racing web site and read what they say about K&N air filters compared to any foam filter.
A K&N will flow more air but you must run an outerwear cover to stop the some of the fine dust. When you put the cover on it limits the flow back to the same as the foam filter.
