Hello everyone I'm getting a new 2007 trx400ex for Christmas. From what I understand they come with 5-speed stock, but I want a 6-speed. I test-drove someone's 400ex and it had 6 gears, another person's 450r I saw had 7 gears, how would I go about getting something like that? I've asked them and they can't manage to give me a clear answer

thanks

I've never heard of this. I have never even seen an advertisment for and after market tranny for a 6 or 7 speed transmisson.
If they have more than 5 gears, how can they not give you a clear answer where they got it from?

I'm with you red, never heard of that setup either. While I would like a 6 speed also, I think you will be just fine with the stocker. Do you plan to do a lot of WOT riding or something?

Wide Open Throttle riding. Going all out all the time basically.

I hate to tell you this, but whoever said they had a 7 speed tranny was full of it. Even if you could put a 6 speed tranny in a 400ex(which by the way is almost impossible without redesinging the whole motor) it would be worthless. There really isn't a need for a 6th gear on any production quad other than to gain 5mph top speed, going downhill with the wind against your back

yes it is bs; ive never heard of this. did you actually RIDE the 7 geared/speed 450R and shift 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 ? Now the 400ex, this is actually true...in a way..if you count the reverse gear on the '05 and up models so i think they were messing with you. But they both only have 5 forward gears.

i will have to disagree about not needing a 6th gear. its not really about top speed- rather the 6 speed trannies make the engines' power more versatle/usable, imo.

the banhsee has 6, warrior has 6, 250R has 6... dont know why the oems stopped. id love to see a 6 in a 450 and really on any new machine...

Yeah, 6 spd tranny in the KFX450 would be nice! But that won't happen.

Is it possible to change the reverse gear into another forward gear? Like, the reverse would be first gear, the the OEM first gear would be second, and so on....? Just wondering
