It was pretty chilly out....30 degrees or so...that wouldn't make a difference would it? I was on tar so I'd think that's about the fastest surface. I let off the gas when the speedo plateaued out...perhaps hanging with the throttle a bit longer would get me a few more MPH?

I can't understand why my local dealer ordered green. What's Honda's slogan "Ride Green?" NOT! I asked what they had for leftover 2006 models and guess what? 6 GREEN Ranchers, 3 GREEN Formans, 1 red and 2 GREEN Rincons.
So when they are ordering the first 3 Ranchers they order the first in GREEN, the second in YELLOW!< and finally the March unit in RED! What the he!! were they thinking!!!

I did find a red one about 40 miles away but my local dealer said they wouldn't service it for me because I didn't buy it from them. I'm not sure how I feel about that philosophy!

BTW, I had to educate my local dealer. They didn't know the new 420 had EFI! LOL!

I'm not quite sure how it works but it seems like the dealers around here don't have a lot of say about what 420's they get in stock. Two weeks ago I called the place where I got mine and they said they wouldn't get any 420 till Mid-Jan. So, a week later, I found another dealer about 60 miles away who had one and I was all set to buy that one. I called my nearer dealer back to check before I made the trip and they had 2 in. Sounds like they are taking what they can get.

 

Does the quad feel at all "heavy" to any of you????? It gained some weight over the old 350......

I got spoiled because I started out riding a light little Blaster and 250R, and frankly anything that weighs over 350 pounds just feels like a huge slug to me! (Precisely why I love my 350 pound 450R!) I just don't see how anybody can ride those 600, 700, and 800 pound big bore utes...........

 

mtpockets, first off, I love Honda's green more than any other manufactuer's green by far. It looks sweet. And second, its the only way to go for hunting (now they have camo). So Red is out of the question. Green sales 10:1 here.

And yes, something must be wrong with your Rancher420 if you only got it to 44mph!! I had gotten my 2001 350 ES up to 52mph on a paved road. So SoMeTHinG must be wrong.

 

I just put about 4 more miles of light trail riding on the 420 ,and Im still very pleased with the performance!

I cant wait to get it to the parks!

My roomate has a 05 Rancher 350 4x4.
When we get a chance to get to the parks we will both switch back and fourth and I will give you a head to head comparison of both machines and tell you how the added weight affects handling and such.

 

I'd have to agree.... Honda does have the best looking Green by far.

I don't know what it is about it... can't put my finger on it exactly...
