You dont teach the bike, the bike teaches you. Best peice of advice I can give you. Just take your time and learn the bikes limits and yours wont be far behind. You got yourself a wheelie machine, so take it easy.
Flush your fluids and refill them. Thats the first thing you do when buying a vehicle.

I think you will be happy w/ your almost new purchase. I have owned mine for almost 2 yrs and have not had any problems, just keep up w/ the simple maintenance! I think it is a great trail quad and almost any type of riding (although I can not atest to sand). I've recently found it is very easy to upgrade your quad and it doesn't really cost all that much. Like JLsparky7 said, it is a wheelie machine so hang on! I can pull wheelies up through 4th just by cracking the throttle. I think it has plenty of "snort" in the low end and can whip your head back in the top end, especially if you mess w/ your gearing. I think you made a great choice, although I'm Pro-Honda and a little biased....you will not be disappointed. Also, there are a lot of smart people on these forums, so if you have questions, search the forums and then ask. I have learned so much over the past few weeks! Have fun and be safe!

You asked about jumping. My 400 does a great job. The only complaint I have is the front shocks. I'm about 220lbs, and after about an hour of riding around a mx track, the front shocks are hot and have faded badly. For trail riding and everthing except mx riding they are fine. But when worked hard for a long time they tend to fade away and bottom easly. This might not be a problem for some riders.

good quad honda is the best and i have ridden about all types of the 400cc class of wheeler and that 400ex is still my favorite. careful on the wheelies- does well in sand-mud-track- just about anywhere, my fav is the low end power for fast trail ridding, try a k&n filter kit with the pre-charge for a little more power.
