I doubt the swingarm would fit, the thumb throttle is different! A 4-stroke throttle has to open a valve while a 2-stroke throttle has to raise a slide. The A-arms should fit and might give you a little more ground clearance.

Actually, the 400EX throttle will work, with a little modification. The 400EX throttle is the same as the 250X/300EX throttle and uses a straight arm rather than the cam that the 250R throttle uses. I switched to a 250X throttle for my 250R and throttle pull is much easier. The problem is getting enough throw to open the carb all the way. A little grinding is required on the inside of the EX throttle to get full throttle on an R. I also machined my own extension piece where the cable threads into the housing, to essentially lengthen the housing. It takes a little work, but it's worth it for throttle pull.

You can put a 250r swingarm on a 400ex, but you must have everything. We just did thing on a friend's 400. He took the whole rear end from his 250r. He did use the 400 rear shock. The quad rides very good and jumps and lands with no problems.

yeah you can put a 250r swingarm on a 400ex but you can't put a 400ex swingarm on a 250r.

Will 400ex tie rod ends work on my R?

And also will 400ex bearings fit 88 front hubs?

Tie rods and ends with inter change, but the quality of the 400 ones are not as good as the 250 r ones. There is a big price difference between the two and it can be seen in the quality of them.
