Default Starting prob

tonight when i went to ride my 400ex, i turned the key and i started right up, but it died cause its cold, so i go to start it again, but the neutral light by the key went out, i didnt touch the shifter, it was in neutral, it would not go back to green and would not start so i tried turning of the key and turning it back on, still no luck. So then i turned it off and took the seat off just looked around for things, didnt see anything, so i turned the key on, and what do u know the light comes on, is there some sensor somewhere that might be causing this problem, its happened before, but didnt last this long, any help woul dbe appreciated

Unsure if the 400's have them, but the 300 has a neutral switch on the clutch cover side..
