Default 400ex help...

I'm going to take a look at a wheeler with this description..

This is a 2003 Honda 400ex in Excellent condition. It has a 426 Big Bore kit with a stage 2 hot cam and a TC Rev box. Motor has less then 4 hours on it. This quad has after market handlebars, pro-armor safety kill switch, K&N filter, Jet kit, Tusk nerf bars, wheel spacers in rear, Shock Covers, aftermarket front bumper, white brothers exhaust, New chain and sprockets, Parking brake block off, race cut fenders with klotz graphic kit comes with it but not on. Plastic is in excellent condition no cracks just normal scuffs from riding. No tears or stains in seat. Tires are about 50% still. Stock exhaust and front bumper is included to.

Anything I should be worried about? Anything I should look for specifically? What do you guys think in a good price?? Thanks alot for any help...any help the sooner the better would be great!!

Default 400ex help...

Just look for the normal things.. frame cracks... take the seat off and check the subframe.. check the airfilter and make sure its clean... if its not point that out! and make him come down on his price... check all the wheel bearings... make sure there not loose and stuff.. check the rear hubs to see if there tight.... start the bike up listen good to see if any knocks are there... and ride it.. no bogs and loss of power at any proformance level.. if those are good get the bike.. the 400ex is a really reliable bike.. the 426cc kit isnt to big of a bore... hope this helps

IMO the biggest risk is with the air filter set up. If bike was ridden in much fine dust without a pre filter over the K&N then there is risk of dirt causing early top end wear, even more so if bike was run with no air box lid or snorkle. I would rec'm pulling out the K&N filter and inspecting plenum between filter and carb for dirt. It is probably caked in dirt and if so then just walk. If clean then you should still do a compression test and compare to what a new rebuilt top end like yours should read. It is pretty hard to judge motor condition by just seat of the pants unless you are very experienced with the 400EX motor.
