weren't the courts putting pressure on the hi performance ATV market?
i've heard that there was a bill passed stopped research and changes to reexisting sports quads that lasted 10 years..from 89 to 99..and thats why Honda released the 400ex in 99.

f that were the case im sure Yamaha would have stopped production on the Banshee and the Blaster.
I also don't understand how the ATV Companies could take an engine out of a streetbike or dirtbike and detune them for 4 wheelers? I have never heard of a lawsuit on Honda or Yamaha for the CRS and yzs1 It pi*es me off because I enjoy riding ATVS a whole lot more than bikes and the money you have to sink into these machines are ridiculous
one pi**ed off atver

What it really comes down to is lawyers saying
"Look what we can do and if you don't like it
TOO BAD!" I have a ATC250R and wish Honda would build a really awesome bike. A 400EX is not an awesome bike. They are really nice, they run pretty well, and handle excellent, but with the technology we have today compared to when the 250R was discontinued they could have done better. BUT
this is just my opinion.

I couldn't say why Suzuki stopped.
One of the main reasons Honda stopped was that there were so many personal injury lawsuits filed against them. It got so expensive just defending themselves from stupid people that would get on a quad and then get hurt and not have insurance to cover themselves so it's, "Hey! Let's sue Honda! They have a lot of money!"
A lot of lawsuits were filed using the "strict liability doctrine" which basically says that if you are using a product as it was intended to be used and it injures you then the manufacturer of the product is liable. Well and good. If you were to buy a quad and when you got on it it took over and drove you off a cliff and you got hurt I can see suing the manufacturer. On the other hand, if you're a stupid person, have no experience, don't wear proper safety gear, and you take off on an R and nail the throttle in 6th gear and drive off a cliff, well, you ought to be responsible, but, like I said, if you're stupid and unwilling to take responsibility for yourself and your actions, then you'll look for some deep pockets to pay you for being stupid and irresponsible.
I read a case where a guy was on a Honda quad, turned a corner, saw a pickup truck coming at him, hit the throttle to try and get out of the way, got hit by the pickup. They sued Honda because the quad couldn't accellerate fast enough to get out of the way. Honda settled with this a**hole for $250,000! Imagine what the family would have gotten if this idiot would have died for being so damn stupid!!
Sorry for the long post.

but i's ok to support the dirtbikes which have more power and can get you into much more trouble? i dont like that the money we spend on quads goes into making a 250 dirtbike that has 45 hp off the showroom floor. atv's outsell all motercycles together for goodness sake!! lets rise against the manufaturers and get us a quad like the kxf250-02!!! lets sue them for taking the money we spent for dirtbikes!! oh, wait, the dirtbikes got the whole atv thing started but...we need beter croch rockets!

thanks guys I guess that anwsers my question. I have to tip my hat to Yamaha though, for being the only company to keep putting out these 2 stroke "Monster Machines" for this long!
One more question though. how in the Hel. do you detune an engine? besides putting restrictors on the intake pipes and making a smaller carb. what could they posibly do to detune an engine?
Thanks,
Neil

basically do the exact opposite of what you do to hop up an engine, less restrictive exaust, lower compression, etc. btw, polaris is one step ahead of honda by offering liquid cooling for a while now on a majority of their machines. dont knock them because they are freakishly heavy!
