if I buy a jet kit for my 300ex does that mean that i won't have to worry about jetting like if i bought a different pipe or ran without my airbox lid?

No, it means that you'll have several jets of various types and sizes, most of which you'll never use. Any time you increase or decrease the air flow with pipes, air box modifications,. etc. it usually means rejetting the carb to compensate.

After I put a FMF Megamax exhaust, fancy air filter, and removed the airbox lid on my 300ex, my quad ran way lean (much more airflow). To take advantage of it, I had to get K&N's jet kit. I installed it with the stage 2 settings, and oh my god what a difference. Much more power, much more torque, along with more fuel consumption. (oh well - fast is more important!) I definately recommend spending a few extra bucks on a jet kit.
