400ex air filter
#1
Okay I have decided on the HMF Sport Series slip-on for my 05 400ex but I am still undecided on the brand of air filter. I have used K&N on my cars and on two of my atv's and I have used the Uni brand on two of my atvs so I need some input. Anybody know of any pluses or minuses with each brand? Thanks

I am a Uni guy but I have owned K&N's too. K&N's will give you more power but will suck in more crap, if you get a K&N get an outerwear for it. I just like the protection foam filters give me so I am going to stick with Uni's. It's all up to which you prefer.

I would avoid the K&N. It will pass very fine dirt...I speak from experience!
The ProDesign air filter adapter with foam filter (made by UNI) is well worth the money! I also run the EHS Racing airbox lid with Outerwears.

Thanks for serving the country Irunwire...I have had K&N's on pretty much all of my machines and have had outerwears on them and they do give a good amount of increase of power, but do allow extra particles to get past and it isn't worth it...So on my 450r I decided to go with a foam and I would recommend you do the same...Although I do like K&N's I don't want any harm done to my quads so I am sticking with foam for now on.

Hey bombrider04 thanks for noticing. I love serving my country. I have one of the coolest jobs that a person could have, working on the high performance F-16, but soon will be switching to the new F-22 Raptor. Thanks for all the advice, I went ahead and ordered the UNI filter for my 400ex. I already have one on the LT80 and the TRX90. I really do not want to mess up the inside of my motor so I decided to go with the foam. Once again Thanks.

I have only ever had a K&N on mine. I run the pro design comp. filter, which is like 2 foam filters on top of each other. I also run the EHS racing lid w/ outwears. I have had no problems yet and always have a clean carb.
